This summer, FAMM asked you to write to your members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor H.R. 2316, the Fair Sentencing Clarification Act. This important bill, introduced by Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), would make the Fair Sentencing Act’s crack cocaine sentencing reforms apply retroactively to those who received an unjust mandatory minimum sentence based on the 100-to-1 crack-powder ratio before August 3, 2010. The bill is unlikely to pass in the last few weeks of this session of Congress, but your letters and emails raised the bill’s profile and garnered some new co-sponsors, as we intended. Rep. Scott just wrote us a letter, thanking you for your support. Read his thank-you letter. FAMM is grateful for Rep. Scott’s steadfast opposition to mandatory minimum sentences, and we’re grateful for you, our supporters. We can’t win justice without you!
