July 28, 2009
Dear FAMM supporter --
We need your help, TODAY, to make tomorrow a success!
On Wednesday, a vote will be taken on a federal crack cocaine bill that is a crucial step on the road to its success. We need you to call your member of Congress to urge him to vote "yes" on the bill.
The bill: H.R. 3245, the Fairness in Cocaine Sentencing Act of 2009, would equalize penalties for crack and powder cocaine, correcting an injustice that has been widely acknowledged by Republicans and Democrats alike. For more information about the issue, read this wonderful editorial from the Washington Post.
The bill's path: The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Bobby Scott (D-Va.) on July 16. It was approved by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security on July 23 and sent to the full Judiciary Committee. The full committee will consider the bill Wednesday.
Action needed now: Your member of Congress is on the House Judiciary Committee and will be voting on H.R. 3245 this Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Follow this link to take action and call him or her now!
Action needed on Thursday: Depending on how your member votes, we will encourage you to send a thank-you email, or an "I'm disappointed" email on Thursday. We'll get back to you with that information after the vote.
THANK YOU! Please act NOW to help us influence Wednesday's vote!
Sincerely yours,
Jennifer
