H.R. 98

The Illegal Immigration Enforcement and Social Security Protection Act of 2009

On January 6, Rep. David Drier (R-Calif.) reintroduced H.R. 98, “The Illegal Immigration Enforcement and Social Security Protection Act of 2009.” The bill includes a five-year mandatory minimum for unauthorized access of an “Employment Eligibility Database” created by the bill.

Rep. Drier introduced the same bill in the House in the 108th, 109th and 110th Congresses, but it has proven unpopular.   The bill received a hearing in the 109th Congress, but did not receive a vote from the House Judiciary committee and never made it to the floor of the House for a vote.   It is unlikely to make it out of committee during the 111th Congress in its current form. FAMM does not support this legislation.
