Assembly bill introduced (A. 2877)
On March 21, New Jersey Assemblyman Peter J. Barnes (D-18, Middlesex) introduced A. 2877. The bill reduces all drug-free zones to 200 feet, enhances the penalty for a zone violation to a second-degree offense, and removes the current mandatory minimum period of incarceration. A. 2877 was referred to the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee. A similar reform bill, S.B. 278, was introduced by Senator Bernard Kenny (D-33, Hudson), and is still pending.
